Alexander Volkanovski Hints At A Big Return, But Not Against The Top Contender
Volkanovski has made it clear he’s aiming for a title shot in his 2025 return. In a recent update, “The Great” revealed two potential options for his comeback: a rematch with Ilia Topuria in Spain at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu or UFC 312 in Sydney, Australia, in February.
While dismissing rumors of a fight with Lopes as fan speculation, Volkanovski clarified on his YouTube channel,
“I think that was just, he’s obviously said, let’s do it in Sydney, and I think people just ran with that, but there’s no talks of that at all. Ahh, you never know, right? But NO! Obviously, we are fighting for the title, so that’s where we are going to mainly focus but we will see what happens. But there’s definitely nothing like that locked in.”
Volkanovski has faced setbacks in title fights against Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria. While fans speculate that fan-favorite Diego Lopes could be his comeback opponent—especially with Lopes showing interest in facing “The Great”—many are holding out hope for a title rematch with Topuria instead.
