After two successful title defenses, UFC light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira remains unbeaten. Now, Pereira revealed his plans to fight again this year. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, the ‘Poatan’ discussed his potential challenge, provided a timeline for his return, and responded to Magomed Ankalaev’s knockout claim.
The 37-year-old defeated the former champion Jiri Prochazka for the second time at UFC 303. Following this win, Magomed Ankalaev initiated an online war of words, claiming he would knock out Pereira without resorting to his wrestling skills. The ‘Poatan’ recently addressed Ankalaev’s bold claims in a YouTube video, responding to the Dagestani fighter and discussing his plans for future challenges.
“You guys saw, a lot of people trying to self-promote. Trying to belittle me, saying they will knock me out, finish me… but I’m training, evolving… I just started evolving now, that’s the difference. [I was] able to go toe to toe with just kickboxing. Now I’m evolving, so each fight it’s getting harder for them.”
Will Alex Pereira Face Magomed Ankalaev?
Ankalaev strengthened his bid for the light heavyweight title by knocking out Johnny Walker, moving up to the #2 spot in the UFC light heavyweight rankings. He is now a top contender for a title shot against Alex Pereira. But ‘Poatan’ had planned to compete at UFC 305 on August 17 in Perth, Australia. However, after reconsidering his schedule, Pereira said on his YouTube channel that he now expects to return to the cage in December.
Since Pereira is unavailable, Ankalaev will have to wait for a title shot, which, if it happens, will be in December. The UFC has not yet announced the date for its December pay-per-view event, so fans and Ankalaev must be patient while waiting for Pereira’s return.
