Israel Adesanya is returning, and he’s going for the championship this time. On Monday, the New Zealand fighter declared that he will compete against UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis on August 17 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, in the main event of UFC 305.
This will be Adesanya’s first fight since Sean Strickland defeated him in a lackluster showing at UFC 293 to win the middleweight title. From October 2019 to November 2022, when he was defeated by a knockout by Alex Pereira, Adesanya was the champion. In the rematch, Adesanya emerged victorious, becoming the first-ever UFC middleweight champion to win the title twice.
Adesanya To Make His UFC Return After A Long Break At UFC 305
UFC president Dana White unintentionally disclosed information about some UFC 305 cards. In a video shared on social media last Friday, White was seen in the “war room” for the advertising. Fans with keen eyes noticed that Adesanya was scheduled for August’s performance, based in Perth, Australia, as the main event.
Even though Du Plessis’ name was obscured in the film, the footage clearly showed that Adesanya would have a chance to reclaim the middleweight title.
Fans already started making their prediction as soon as the fight was officially announced as a primary event fight at the UFC 305 on August 17. One fan on X named Mr Handsome posted;

“Its time for the real African Champ Adesanya to come and collect what belongs to him not this European who is an African by colonialism.”
Fans have already started predicting the fight as they commented on the post shared by Israel Adesanya on his X post.
At the very least, UFC 305 will settle half the score, and their matchup is years away. After defeating Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 in July 2023, Du Plessis was set up to face Adesanya; however, a foot issue forced him to withdraw from UFC 293 and made room for Strickland.
The notion that Adesanya, who hasn’t competed since shocking Strickland, is instantly eligible for a title match may irritate some fans. But there’s no denying that this fight deserves to be the main event of a significant pay-per-view.
