The New York Yankees seem to have had their fill from the free agency market as they enter spring training. The Yanks had one of the most successful offseasons by picking up some star players. It’s safe to say that the team has one of the best starting rotations and a top-notch offensive unit.
However, they still have a spot to fill. The Yanks have not yet pursued a player to replace Gleyber Torres. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is expected to move to second base while they are set to promote an internal third baseman.
Alex Bregman would have been the perfect fit for the team. The Yankees were initially interested in Bregman but dropped out of the race. Moreover, the franchise is probably done adding more free-agent players. Yankees GM Brian Cashman mentioned the team would turn to internal options to fill their vacant spots.
“I don’t know how it’s going to play out. I do think we can have one of these candidates emerge or multiple guys emerge into a platoon situation at worst, or a solo shot at best. The flexibility and athleticism that Jazz provides gives us the ample opportunity to play it out. I’ll be comfortable when somebody solidifies that, whether it’s a platoon situation or a solo shot,” Cashman said.
While he did mention there is always a marketplace to explore, the chances of signing a free agent for third base are pretty slim.

Yankees Have Four Options To Fill In For Third Base
The team’s deep pool of internal players is the primary reason they may avoid the free-agent market. As Cashman said, they have four options to fill in for third base. It does not make sense for the team to pursue a free-agent slugger.

“Obviously, between Peraza, Cabrera, DJ LeMahieu, Vivas, we’re going to have some guys taking some reps trying to earn a spot, whether it’s at second or third,” Cashman said via the New York Post.
The Bronx Bombers will explore their opportunities with Chisholm’s help. Cabrera and LaMahieu might switch between third base and second base while Chisholm plays second. The Yankees can also consider Peraza and Vivas or use all four if they wish. The Yanks are rumored to be in pursuit of former Tigers southpaw pitcher.
