Anthony Rizzo did not have the perfect 2024 season due to injuries. To make things worse, his failure to cover first base during Game 5 of the World Series has left a huge scar. The Yankees have declined his club option, leaving him in the open market as a free agent.
The Bronx Bombers have moved forward by signing veteran slugger Paul Goldschmidt. The Yanks have clearly stayed away from Rizzo, as Goldschmidt will be the new first baseman. Surprisingly, the team is also giving away Rizzo’s No. 48 to Goldschmidt, as per MLB Jersey Numbers.

Anthony Rizzo’s 2025 MLB Season Remains Uncertain
Rizzo’s 2025 season is still uncertain despite a few teams expected to be on him. The Yanks have stayed away for now, and they don’t seem ready to bring him back to the Bronx. This was clear when they agreed to a one-year deal with Goldschmidt.
Many find it surprising that the team picked Goldschmidt over Rizzo. However, Brian Cashman stated that the franchise respects Rizzo and that there is a chance of a reunion. The biggest question is where Rizzo will play.
Even if they bring him back, Goldschmidt is set to take his position. That said, Anthony Rizzo might find another team, but it might take a while or even go beyond spring training. MLB rumors continue at a fast pace as several free agents hope to finalize a team.
