John Sterling wishes he could have this embarrassing moment back.
While calling games remotely saves significantly on travel expenses, it does come with a cost as the Yankees broadcaster completely lost his feel for the game he was calling and it led to a huge mishap.
Sterling accidentally called a home run by Aaron Judge, not realizing he was simply watching a replay.
Sterling: “Now here’s Judge — and the breaking ball is hit in the air to deep left. That ball is high, it is far, it is gone! Short pause. Unfortunately, that was a replay of the home run. But it was a good replay.”
Waldman: “Hm.”
Sterling: “I’m sorry, it was on the monitor. What am I supposed to do?”

Waldman: “This is a great way to do a game, isn’t it?”
Sterling: “Yep.”
Waldman: “Yep.”
It was hilarious, but we should give him a break since the man is 83-years-old.
