Aaron Judge has always kept clear of brawls or other nasty engagements on the field. The Yankees captain has built an excellent reputation over the years. Yet, Judge was also a part of an unforgettable bench-clearing fight that involved several other stars.
According to former MLB slugger Miguel Cabrera, Judge tried to hit him during a game in 2017. The Yankees and the Tigers had some tensions growing after a pitch hit players on both ends.
Detroit’s pitcher, Michael Fulmer, hit Gary Sanchez, and Tommy Kahnle, in turn, drilled Cabrera. Moreover, things escalated quickly when Cabrera and Austin Romine exchanged fists following a heated argument at the plate. As a result, the benches were cleared, and consequently, both Cabrera and Romine found themselves surrounded by more than 25 players and umpires.
Cabrera pushed Romine first and started swinging at him. Since he instigated the fight, the MLB had suspended the former Tigers star for seven games. Cabrera was unhappy that the leagues suspended him and not Aaron Judge, who he claims tried to hit him.

“The guy Kahnle who threw at me. No, it was an inside pitch. Come on say the truth. Why not say the truth? “My point is, why are they not saying anything about Judge? He tried to hit me, go after me on the floor. They didn’t suspend him. There was a lot of people going after me and they didn’t get a suspension” Cabrera said via ESPN.
Aaron Judge Did Not Receive A Suspension Despite His Involvement
Aaron Judge walked free as the MLB had not suspended him. Judge was not involved directly, but Cabrera’s perspective has a different story. The league suspended Gary Sanchez, Alex Wilson, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, Cabrera, and Romine and imposed undisclosed fines.

Other stars and coaches were fined for involvement: Joe Girardi, Rob Thomson, Tommy Kahnle, Jose Iglesias, and Brett Gardner. Cabrera called out the league for their unfair suspension, particularly because Aaron Judge did not receive one, despite his involvement.
It was one of the most intense and unforgettable brawls between the Tigers and Yankees. It’s common for players to get into arguments after being hit by a pitch. Moreover, the league strictly deals with anyone starting a fight.
The 2024 MLB offseason is in full swing, with free agents getting offers from several teams. All-Star slugger Juan Soto is expected to sign with a team soon after receiving offers from several teams.
