Wander Franco’s career could be in some peril as it’s been reported that someone close to the investigations reckons the shortstop is unlikely to ever play in the MLB again.
Franco stands accused of having a relationship with a 14-year-old, something he has denied. But things seem to have taken a very serious turn as the Dominican Republic Attorney General has revealed that a minor has made a formal complaint against the Tampa Bay Rays star.
A tweet from MLB insider Hector Gomez reads: “It will be very unlikely that Wander Franco will play in MLB again, judging by the results of the investigations that are currently being carried out, which directly commit him to the accusations against him.”
Per The Associated Press, the investigation is being carried out by The National Agency for Boys, Girls, Adolescents and Family and Gender Violence Unit. The MLB’s Department of Investigations has started its own probe while the Rays have put the player on the restricted list.
Meanwhile, prosecutor Ángel Darío Tejeda Fabal hasn’t made any contact with the League or authorities in the U.S. but is hoping to be in a position to present information by next week.

The collective bargaining agreement gives the MLB the authority to place Franco on administrative leave, but they have not taken such a step. Even in the absence of evidence, the league can place a player on leave during an investigation for “significant disruption” to his team.
