The Toronto Blue Jays have gotten a bit of exciting news lately in the offseason. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has had no headlines in recent news. Although the Blue Jays added Max Scherzer to the team, the Toronto fanbase wants more.
Entering the final year of his current contract, Guerrero Jr. has yet to secure a long-term deal. The negotiations are ongoing, but there is nothing concrete from either side. With pitchers and catchers reporting to Dunedin, Florida, on February 13 and full team activities starting on February 18, time is ticking for both Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays. However, fans have something to live by for some time as the Blue Jays GM addressed the Guerrero Jr. situation.
“Today is about Max and today is about the team that’s in place. And Vlad is certainly a huge part of that. You all know our desire to have him here for a long time, and we’ll continue to work towards that,” Atkins said during Scherzer’s introductory press conference.
Blue Jays are actively negotiating an extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and he's the most important hitter in their lineup so the recent NYM trade speculation feels like wishful thinking on the part of the Mets (and possibly an attempt to gain leverage on Pete Alonso).

The standout slugger, who finished the 2024 season with impressive stats, has had a strong showing on the field. If the Blue Jays are serious about him, he has a portfolio to vouch for. The star first baseman’s stats include 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, and a .323 batting average.
Reports indicate that Guerrero Jr. is seeking a deal that significantly surpasses the previous offer from the Blue Jays. The earlier deal was a 10-year, $340 million contract. However, the Blue Jays fans remain hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon, ideally before the upcoming Spring Training.

Rumors Say Valdimir Guerrero Jr. Could Land A Historic $700 Million Deal
While there are more ifs, buts, and maybes, the rumor mill has its own sphere around speculations. Rumor has it that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. could be on the brink of landing a $700 million contract extension.
This big buck rumor came in wake of the New York Mets’ jaw-dropping $765 million deal with Juan Soto this past summer. While many initially doubted that Guerrero could approach such astronomical figures, recent insights from MLB reporter Mike Axisa suggest that the Blue Jays are willing to make a major push in negotiations.
"Hopefully, they can make it work because he wants to stay."

Guerrero, currently one of the biggest names in baseball, has expressed his willingness to negotiate a new deal up until the first full day of Spring Training. Interestingly, despite the Blue Jays’ previous offer of $340 million being rejected, there are whispers that both sides might be able to find common ground around $700 million.
Axisa even mentioned that a long-term deal could be structured as 14 years at $50 million per year to reach that total, which is becoming less far-fetched as the landscape of player contracts shifts.
However, not all reports support the notion that Guerrero will secure such a historic deal. Many insiders believe that the final offer from the Blue Jays is more likely to fall between $450 million and $550 million.
