Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen displayed so much nasty movement on his breaking ball that social media is debating what kind of pitch it is.
An old clip of Zac Gallen fooling Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino with a filthy breaking ball has resurfaced. The clip is from last year’s Apr. 26 contest in Arizona, which the Diamondbacks won 2-0.
Gallen makes Pasquantino look silly on an 83 MPH pitch up in the strike zone. The delivery was so nasty that Pasquantino later took to X/Twitter to ask fans if they thought it was a cutter or a changeup:
Here’s how social media reacted to the video of Zac Gallen delivering the mysterious breaking ball pitch:

Zac Gallen pitched a complete gem that night, allowing no runs, four hits and zero walks while striking out 12 in 6.1 innings pitched. The 6-foot-2, 189-pound Gallen finished with a 17-9 regular season record in 2023, with a 3.47 ERA and a career-high 220 strikeouts in 210 innings pitched.
The Diamondbacks snuck into the postseason as a wild card team and made a stunning run to the World Series, where they were eliminated by the Texas Rangers in five games. In the postseason, Gallen went 2-3 with a 4.54 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 33.2 innings pitched.
Zac Gallen Is Off To Another Strong Start In 2024
We’re two months into the 2024 MLB regular season, and the Diamondbacks have been one of the biggest disappointments thus far with a 25-28 record heading into Tuesday’s action.
But Gallen is doing his part in keeping the team in the playoff race, boasting a 5-4 record with a 3.12 ERA, 60 strikeouts and only 15 walks in 57.2 innings pitched. So far, opponents are only batting .233 against the 28-year-old.
Gallen is slated to return to the mound on Thursday, when Arizona opens a four-game road series against the struggling New York Mets.
