In 1916, Morehouse Bakery in Lawrence, Massachusetts, printed out Babe Ruth rookie cards to create more buzz around the business.
However, little did the bakery owners know they were creating some of the most expensive baseball cards ever.
Of course, there might not be a more infamous sports icon in their league than Ruth. He’s still the most famous baseball player over 100 years after starting his playing career.
These rookie cards were believed never to be found or were accidentally destroyed.
That all changed when Jeff Gross, a collector himself, talked to a man who wanted to stay anonymous at an estate sale and revealed that he had two of Ruth’s Morehouse cards.
“It was in my hand. I was like, what am I doing with this? With this card in my hand?” said Gross when talking to NBC10 Boston.

It is later revealed that the anonymous person has two of the Ruth cards, one of which is much better in condition than the other.
The one in better condition is expected to “fetch at least $500,000,” making it one of the most expensive sports cards ever.
Almost 100 Years Since Retiring, Babe Ruth Still Holds Multiple Records
Even with players like LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Lionel Messi, and many others, nobody will be as infamous for their sport as Babe Ruth.
He finished his playing career in 1935, yet still holds the record for some major statistics. His .690 slugging percentage, 1.164 on-base plus slugging, and 206 OPS+ are still the all-time bests.
It’s almost mind-boggling that Ruth retired with winning just one MVP award in his career, but all is well, considering he won the World Series seven times.
Ruth also sits just behind Hank Aaron and Barry Bonbds with the most home runs ever.
