Hunter Greene starts a unique ritual when he takes the mound. He seems to vomit just about every game where he takes the mound.
This most recent incident occurred during the fifth inning against the St. Loius Cardinals. You can see him burying his face in his glove as the throw-up spills out the webbing while he tries to shake it out.
There was a small pause in the game to ensure he was okay until Greene eventually stayed in the game. He pitched seven innings and gave up just one run on four hits.
Of course, you could say it was nerves kicking in, but it’s worth noting that the high in Cincinnati on the day of the game was 88 degrees.
“I think a lot of us feel like throwing up during the game sometimes, and it doesn’t come out, maybe he just feels better after that,” said Reds manager David Bell.

Greene previously threw up in a game this year in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he credits hydrating too much to being the cause.
Whatever the reason, it’s weird that Greene has now consistently shown a problem like this when pitching.
Hunter Greene Continues Strong Season
Despite this odd struggle this season, it hasn’t affected Greene’s pitching performance.
Greene is playing in just his third season, making his first All-Star appearance in 2024 with a strong 2.83 ERA in 143.1 innings with 162 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.019. That gives him the fifth-best ERA and seventh-most strikeouts in MLB.
His numbers have comfortably put him in a position to potentially earn a Cy Young award at just 24 years old.
