Paul Skenes is coming off an incredible season as a rookie. The Pittsburgh Pirates could have never asked for a better No. 1 draft pick. The talented pitcher made it to the All-Star game in his rookie year and has miles to go with an entire career ahead.
Along with Skenes, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shota Imanaga had excellent MLB debuts. Imanaga was the face of the Chicago Cubs, earning the nickname “The Throwing Philosopher” in his first year in the big leagues. Skenes and Imanaga dominated opponents with their pitching prowess. Both pitchers have incredible talent, but Skenes is known for his fastball.
The duo had shared several moments together. One such moment was revealed when Paul Skenes opened up in an interview during the 2024 All-MLB Awards. Skenes said that Shota Imanaga asked him how he held his fastball.
“I regret this one a little bit. Shota came up to me when we were in Pittsburgh, and he asked me how I held my fastball. Not my sinker, so I was like yeah, here you go, dude, like whatever, check it out, and then he ‘no-hit’ us his next outing,” Skenes said.
