Oakland Athletics closer Mason Miller broke the internet by embarrassing New York Yankees pitchers with his filthy and practically unhittable fastball during Monday’s series opener at Yankee Stadium.
Miller was brought in for the bottom half of the ninth inning to hold a 2-0 lead against the Bronx Bombers. The flamethrowing pitcher struck out all three batters he faced, leading the Oakland Athletics to a big upset over the Pinstripes.
All Miller had to do was throw absolute rockets (100 MPH and up) to humiliate the Yankees’ high-powered lineup. Here are some clips of him making easy work of Anthony Volpe, Juan Soto and 2022 AL MVP Aaron Judge:

The 25-year-old’s performance on the mound had fans’ jaws dropping on the floor:
Miller needed only 14 pitches to strike out the side, with 11 of those pitches going for strikes. He already has five saves on the young season, with a 1.80 ERA and 20 strikeouts (!) in only 10 innings pitched.
The Oakland Athletics will try to guarantee themselves at least a series split when they take on the Yankees in game two of the four-game set on Tuesday evening.
Mason Miller Could Be A Top Oakland Athletics Trade Candidate
The Athletics are likely to be one of the top sellers at the 2024 trade deadline, which falls on July 30 this year.
As a moneyball team, the Athletics will always prioritize building their team on the cheap and through prospect development. A special weapon like Mason Miller would score a giant return at the trade deadline, especially if he continues to pitch like this.
There are only so many reliable closers in the majors today, and those guys can often make the difference in the postseason. So A’s fans better enjoy Miller while they still have him, because there’s a high probability that he’ll end up getting traded ahead of the deadline this summer.
