On Thursday night, Shohei Ohtani became the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 basses in a season. It came on a historic night when Ohtani went six for six with three home runs. His second home run would be a record-breaking hit.
According to an auction expert (via TMZ), the ball is currently estimated to be worth roughly $500,000. However, some controversy has arisen over who really should have gotten it.
In the video showing fans rushing for the ball, a man in a black t-shirt is seen at the end, pumping his fist in the air with Ohtani’s ball in it.
The video also shows a fan standing near the bullpen door wearing a red Marlins jersey and claiming that the ball was stolen from him. That fan is Max Matus, who was celebrating his eighteenth birthday.
“The ball bounced off the table, and it went under, and I grabbed it,” Matus, told cllct Friday morning. “Then the other guy had my hand between his legs holding my arm and took the ball from my hand.”

Of course, that’s a major deal because Matus possibly missed out on a life-changing amount of money at such a young age.
As of now, it’s also being reported that the fan who did end up with Ohtani’s ball has decided to keep it and not return it to the Dodgers.
Shohei Ohtani’s 50-50 Season Might Have Won Him MVP
The National League MVP is a very heated topic as of now, but Ohtani might have just solidified his case.
50 home runs is already impressive enough, but combine that with enough speed and skill to snag 50 bases, and you become an unbelievably well-rounded player.
It is going to be hard for a lot of voters to find anyone else to vote for at this point.
