Kodai Senga has got some jokes amid a tense MLB offseason. The New York Mets pitcher is lacing up for the next adventure and is feeling the vibe lately. After a frustratingly injury-plagued 2024, Senga is determined to bounce back. And he isn’t shy about adding a touch of humor to the recent signings by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Last season, Senga had quite a successful 2023 campaign. He dazzled with a 2.98 ERA and struck out 202 batters. Unfortunately, the injury bug hit hard in 2024, starting with a right shoulder capsule strain in spring training that kept him on the injured list for much of the season. Senga’s return saw him struggle through just 10.1 innings before being sidelined again due to a high-grade calf strain.
“Of course, I would love to have some more on the Mets, but the climate’s nice there, and I think that definitely plays a part. We need to build a roof,” Senga replied when asked about the Dodgers signing so many top Japanese players.

In a light-hearted moment during the interview, he joked that the Mets may need to consider building a roof over Citi Field to attract more Japanese players.
However, his postseason performance was equally challenging, as he allowed seven runs over two starts against powerhouses like the Philadelphia Phillies and Dodgers. However, as Senga looked ahead from the Mets’ spring training camp in Port St. Lucie, Florida, he exuded optimism and a renewed sense of purpose.

Kodai Senga Sounds Positive Heading 2025 Season
While Kodai Senga is throwing some puns out there, he has more to handle in the coming time. The young right-handed pitcher for the Mets is poised for a full workload in the 2025 season after a difficult year marred by injuries.
Last year, he faced significant setbacks, including a shoulder capsule strain that sidelined him almost the entire season. Despite these challenges, Senga reported feeling healthy as he headed into spring training, expressing confidence in his ability to manage his workload as he recovered from previous injuries.
“I’m not worried at all. I just need to ramp up slowly and get through spring training healthy and get through the year healthy. I’m very happy as long as I am healthy and able to help out this team,” Sanga said.

His return to the mound is particularly important, considering Senga’s stellar performance during his rookie season in previous years. Although, the Mets are looking to strengthen their pitching rotation as they prepare for a competitive National League. And it comes especially with the departure of notable pitchers and the introduction of new options. Additionally, the potential implementation of a six-man rotation could serve to provide him with extra rest.
