The Cleveland Guardians’ got to experience “day” and “night” all in one during the warmups for their home opener on Monday.
Today was a special day in history with a total solar eclipse across North America. Monday marked the first total solar eclipse in the United States since Aug. 21, 2017 (widely referred to as the “Great American Eclipse.”
Chicago White Sox beat writer Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times shared a jaw-dropping video of the Cleveland skies turning dark during the team’s warmups (shortly after 3:00 p.m. EST).
Just a few minutes later, the darkness was gone and the sun was shining bright again in Cleveland:
No word yet if the DJ at Progressive Field played Simon & Garfunkel’s hit song “The Sound of Silence” during the brief moments of darkness.

The Cleveland Guardians opened their 2024 regular season with a nine-game road trip. It was supposed to be a 10-gamer, but Sunday’s road game against the Minnesota Twins was postponed due to rain. That game has been rescheduled for Aug. 9.
The AL Central club won three of four in its season-opening road series against the Oakland Athletics, before traveling to Seattle for a three-game set. The Cleveland Guardians took two out of three there before heading to Minnesota, where they won the first two contests before the third game was rained out.
Cleveland Guardians Are Off To An Excellent Start
Coming off a rare postseason miss in 2023, the Guardians are off to a near-perfect start at 7-2 entering their home opener against the White Sox.
Losing ace pitcher Shane Bieber for the year (he requires season-ending Tommy John Surgery) is a tough blow, but the Guardians do have the pitching depth (Logan Allen and Tanner Bibee are off to strong starts) and a powerful lineup to get through Bieber’s absence.
It’s awfully early into the 162-game season, but the Guardians certainly look like a bonafide World Series contender 10 days into the campaign.
