Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene had an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction during the club’s Tuesday afternoon contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In the top of the ninth inning of Tuesday’s contest against the Bucs, Greene started the rally by drawing a walk off David Bednar. Spencer Torkelson was hit by a pitch to bring the go-ahead run to the plate.
Gio Urshela then singled to center field to bring in both McKinstry and Greene. As the latter was sliding to home plate, however, he accidentally ripped his pants along the right leg (thanks for nothing, Fanatics):
Let’s just say that Fanatics is about to get even more intense criticism for their peculiar design of the MLB players’ pants…
The Detroit Tigers tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Jason Foley came in to close it out, as the Tigers stunned the surprising Pirates (now 9-3) to improve to 7-4 on the young season.

Greene himself was 1-for-3 at the plate, and he has a season batting average of .205 heading into Thursday’s series opener against the Minnesota Twins.
Detroit and Pittsburgh split the two-game series in Steel City. They’ll wrap up their season series with a two-game set in the Motor City on May 28 and 29.
Detroit Tigers Are A Top Early-Season Surprise
After a painful near-decade-long rebuild, the Detroit Tigers are finally back on the up and look ready to make a run at the postseason here in 2024.
Detroit hasn’t made the postseason since 2014, when they had the likes of Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Ian Kinsler, Victor Martinez, Torii Hunter and J.D. Martinez in their primes. That Detroit team wound up losing to the Baltimore Orioles in the ALDS.
But the young Tigers are certainly off to a promising start with a 7-4 record. Playing in the wide-open AL Central, Detroit is in a good spot to emerge as a contender and end a 10-year postseason drought in 2024.
