Social media is losing their minds after cameras caught Shohei Ohtani’s strange reaction to his home run against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.
In the top of the first inning of LA’s visit to Chicago, Shohei Ohtani took White Sox pitcher Chris Flexen deep for a 376-foot homer to put the visitors up 1-0. Here’s the Dodgers’ TV broadcast of Ohtani’s latest dinger:
But as you can see in the close-up camera angle below, Ohtani had a hilarious reaction as the ball traveled over the right field fence. Even though it cleared the wall, Ohtani spent several seconds believing he had just missed a homer.
A confused Shohei Ohtani then had to move back to first base to make sure that he had touched the bag before rounding the bases:
And social media had plenty of hilarious responses to Ohtani’s priceless reaction to his home run:

That marked Ohtani’s 24th home run of the season, extending his lead on all other National League batters. Coming into Tuesday night, only New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge (28) had more homers than the $700 million man.
The Dodgers will wrap up their three-game set against the White Sox on Monday evening (8:10 p.m. EST) before traveling to San Francisco to begin a three-game series with the archrival Giants on Friday night.
Shohei Ohtani Has Come As Advertised For Dodgers
In December, the Dodgers handed Ohtani a record-setting $700 million deal, the richest contract for a professional athlete. It surpassed the $674 million contract that Lionel Messi signed with Barcelona back in 2017.
Ohtani can’t pitch this year because of elbow surgery, but his bat has been everything the Dodgers could have asked for. He’s already on pace to smash his career highs in homers (46), RBI (100) and batting average (.304).
Incredibly, Ohtani has taken his game to another level with the Dodgers. But of course, the only thing that ultimately matters here is a World Series championship for the star-studded NL West team.
