On Thursday night, the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets squared off in a Wild Card game that was an elimination matchup for both. It proved to be one of the most exciting MLB games of the year, and it couldn’t have been done without Pete Alonso.
At one point, Alonso backed into foul territory, netting along the first base side in search of catching a foul ball. However, the ball clipped the end of the glove, and it wound up being a drop.
From one camera angle of the play, you can see a crowd of Mets fans laughing right in Alonso’s face and some pointing right at him.
It was certainly a low point for Alonso, who hadn’t contributed much on offense throughout the first two games of the series.
However, that quickly changed once he stepped up to the plate at the bottom of the ninth inning, down two runs and with men on first and third.

As the Brewers All-Star closer, Devin Williams threw a changeup, Alonso perfectly identified it and sent a line drive shot into right field that got just over the fence for a home run.
At that point, the first baseman completely silenced the crowd as the Mets went on to win 4-2 and advanced to the National League Divisional Series to take on the Philadelphia Phillies. He simultaneously sent the Brewers and their fans home in disappointment.
Pete Alonso Will Be A Free Agent After This Year
Even after this legendary moment, Alonso’s career with the Mets might soon end.
After the season, he is set to become a free agent, and there’s a strong chance that New York won’t be able to pay the salary he wants.
