Yusei Kikuchi might not be the most household name in Major League Baseball, but he certainly caused a stir on Wednesday when viewers couldn’t help but to notice that something on his ball cap.
The Seattle Mariners pitcher held a no-hitter until the sixth inning, which became a footnote to people who noticed he had an insane amount of what looked like pine tar under the lip of his cap.
Using pine tar has always been against the rules, but it seems to rarely get players punished, as somewhat explained by Andy Martino of SNY:
One wonders if the actual players don’t care if others are using it, then why is it even banned to begin with?
