The 2024 MLB season has successfully ended as the Los Angeles Dodgers became the World Series winners for the eighth time. It’s been a challenging year for Yankees fans, especially after squandering Game 5. With the World Series out of the way, teams will shift their focus to the list of free agents for the 2025 season.
Top hitters like Juano Soto and Teoscar Hernandez will hit the market, but there has never been a shortage of pitching demand.
Top 5 MLB Free Agent Pitchers
5) Corbin Burnes
Corbin Burnes was one of the biggest acquisitions for the Baltimore Orioles. Burnes helped the O’s on their journey to the postseason with a 15-9 record and a strong 2.92 ERA. He recorded 181 strikeouts with a spectacular 1.10 WHIP.
The O’s reaped the best out of Burnes, but the ace is now one of the top 5 free agent pitchers. Several teams will show interest in Burnes, and O’s might try to retain him for the 2025 MLB season.
4) Jack Flaherty
As much as the Yankees rocked Jack Flaherty in the final World Series game, it’s clear that he has been an excellent pitcher. Flaherty finished his 2024 regular season with a 13-7 record and a decent 3.17 ERA.

The Dodgers signed Flaherty at the right moment, especially when they needed some pitching staff the most. Flaherty is eligible for free agency in 2025, and a number of teams will go after the World Series winner.
3) Shane Bieber
Shane Bieber might not be able to pitch until halfway through the 2025 MLB season. Bieber underwent Tommy John surgery but was known as the Guardians’ pitching face. The right-handed pitcher is considered one of the top free agents for next season. Undoubtedly, several teams will be ready to offer a deal for Bieber.
2) Max Fried
Max Fried has never pitched in any other uniform like he did for the Atlanta Braves. Fried had an 11-10 record in his 2024 MLB season with a strong 3.25 ERA. The southpaw will have an advantage as several teams might want to go all in for a lefty. The Braves could be one of the top teams that might retain Fried. Yet, several others are expected to pitch their offers.
1) Blake Snell
Blake Snell and the San Francisco Giants agreed to a two-year contract. However, Snell is expected to opt out this season and probably look for something long-term. Snell recorded a no-hitter in 2024, giving him an edge over several teams.
Several teams will want to build their starting rotations for the 2025 MLB season. That said, these top five pitchers could find a new uniform. One of the biggest trade rumors this off-season will be associated with Soto.
