Tampa Bay Rays star shortstop Wander Franco was reportedly arrested in the Dominican Republic on Monday.
Franco missed the 2024 MLB season in its entirety following accusations of sexually abusing a 14-year-old.
According to ESPN, the 23-year-old was apprehended in San Juan de la Maguana, around 100 miles off Santo Domingo in the DR, following an incident in which guns were brandished.
The outlet reports that there was an altercation in a parking lot near an apartment complex during which multiple parties drew guns.
“Police sources confirm that Franco and an unnamed woman are being held for questioning following the incident,” ESPN reported.

Wander Franco Can Carry A Gun Despite Being On Bail
While Franco is unable to leave the country as part of his bail agreement, police say he is free to carry a gun as long he is licensed to own one, though they did not confirm the latter.
The DR native signed an 11-year deal worth $182 million extension with the Rays in 2021 but has been on the MLB’s restricted list following accusations of a relationship with a minor.
The MLB is still investigating the matter through its domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy.
