A blockbuster trade proposal has the Philadelphia Phillies sending star third baseman Alec Bohm to a middling American League team that would immediately turn them into postseason contenders.
Despite Alec Bohm’s instrumental role in helping the Phillies emerge as an MLB heavyweight, the 28-year-old has widely popped up in trade rumors during the offseason. So far, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski hasn’t received an offer for his liking.
The Phillies are coming off a disappointing playoff eliminations at the hands of the rival New York Mets in the NLDS, and a trade-happy executive like Dombrowski should feel motivated to make a blockbuster deal or two ahead of spring training.
Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer recently proposed a blockbuster trade idea that has the Phillies sending Alec Bohm to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for utility man Davis Schneider and prized right-handed pitcher prospect Jake Bloss:
“The Ruth-ian hype of Schneider’s debut in 2023 is long gone, yet his propensity for hitting the ball in the air would play well at a bandbox like Citizens Bank Park. For his part, Bloss would be a candidate to crack the Phillies’ Opening Day rotation.
Yet even if this deal would make the Phillies deeper, whether they’d be better is debatable. Schneider would need to hit, which is an iffy bet after he batted .191 in 2024.”
Phillies fans will get a kick out of this …

The Blue Jays struck out on the Juan Soto free agent sweepstakes and have yet to reach an extension with franchise star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. If Toronto is to compete in 2025, GM Ross Atkins will have to make significant improvements to one of baseballs worst lineups.
Toronto must show Vladdy Jr. that they’re committed to building a winner around him. Getting one of the league’s best third basemen in Bohm would be a nice step forward on that front.
Alec Bohm Would Be An Ideal Pickup For Jays
A player like Alec Bohm could certainly address the Jays’ need for more offense. A career .277 hitter with a low strikeout rate, Bohm hit .280 last season with 15 homers, 97 RBI and a .779 OPS.
The Jays don’t seem keen on increasing their payroll much more this year, so getting Bohm (under club control at an affordable rate) would leave the door open for Atkins to make a big splash or two in free agency.
