Stephen A. Smith claims to be a diehard New York Yankees fan. And now it appears as though he’ll come as close as he’s ever been to actually playing for the team… by throwing out the first pitch!
Okay, okay. Throwing out the first pitch is not really all that close to actually playing in a game, but it’s still pretty cool to be out there, kicking things off before your favorite team takes the field to do battle.
Stephen A. Smith made the announcement on First Take, revealing that the Pinstripes have been in contact with him about throwing out the first pitch at an upcoming game.
Needless to say, the ESPN star was awfully giddy about the opportunity.
I can’t say I’ve ever seen Stephen A. Smith throw anything in his life (besides a fit), so there’s no telling how this could end up going for the First Take host.
If it’s anything like his boxing highlights, we could have another “50 Cent” on our hands.

Stephen A. Smith is currently running the show at ESPN, as he continues to be on our television screens nearly every second of the day, while seemingly everyone else at the network is losing their jobs.
There’s a reason why some refer to his as the hardest working man in sports television. It is a distinction he’s earned over the years, and it is one that has suddenly earned him a chance to do something he’s probably dreamed of doing for a while now — throw out the first pitch at a Yankees game.
