Colorado Rockies pitcher Noah Davis had quite the close call with a hard-hit ball in Sunday afternoon’s road game against the Seattle Mariners. And in his first career start, no less.
In the bottom of the second inning, Davis faced Seattle outfielder Teoscar Hernández. On the 10th pitch of the at-bat, Hernández swung at a 93.5 MPH from Davis and put the ball in play.
The result? A hard-hit line drive that literally misses Davis’ head by inches. As you can see in the video below, the ball grazed Davis’ ballcap and set it flying off.
Thankfully, Davis avoided what could have been a significant injury. Hernández hit the ball to the second baseman, who threw it to first to record the out.

Davis pieced together a quality performance, going five innings with three hits allowed, five strikeouts and zero earned runs. Despite his strong outing, the Rockies fell to the Mariners 1-0. A sixth-inning single by Jarred Kelenic plated Ty France, and that was all the offense Seattle needed to complete the sweep in the three-game series.
