Shohei Ohtani is enjoying the offseason after winning the World Series and the NL MVP for 2024. The Dodgers star has put behind the gambling scandal involving his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. However, it turns out that Mizuhara had purchased a number of baseball cards with Ohtani’s money.
Ohtani is now seeking ownership of those cards worth $325,000. The two-way star is petitioning a judge in the U.S. District Court to get back those cards. It seems that his former interpreter has used his stolen money for more than gambling.
Mizuhara was found guilty of stealing nearly $17 million from Shohei Ohtani and was suspended by Major League Baseball. He later pleaded guilty. He bought the baseball cards earlier this year, likely on eBay, sometime between January and March.

The U.S. District Court has considered Ohtani’s petition, and the hearing will take place on December 20. According to the New York Post, the cards were described as the following: “Collectible sports cards found in silver and black Panopply case; collectible sports cards found in gray Panopply case; box containing collectible sports cards; card wrap device; and plastic card protectors holders.”
Since his interpreter used Ohtani’s money to purchase the cards, Ohtani simply wants them returned. However, whether the Dodgers star will regain possession of them remains uncertain.
Shohei Ohtani Is Expected To Pitch In 2025
Dodgers fans are excited for 2025 as they will get to see their star pitcher take the mound after a long wait. Ohtani has not pitched in a long time. His last time on the mound was with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023.

The Japanese star underwent arthroscopic surgery due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Ohtani began throwing sessions earlier this year but has yet to get into proper form. The Dodgers did not want to risk their star getting hurt further.
The Dodgers will have an extra pitcher in their starting rotation next season. Ohtani will join Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Landon Knack, Dustin May, and a few others. Adding Snell to their lineup has bolstered the team’s pitching rotation for 2025.
