The historic Shohei Ohtani 50/50 home run ball has sold for a record price at auction.
Shohei Ohtani made MLB history in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Sept. 19 road game against the Miami Marlins, when he hit his 50th home run of the season. The $700 million man became the fist player in history to record 50 homers and 50 stolen bases in a single season.
On Tuesday, Goldin Auctions announced that the 50th home run ball sold for a whopping $4.392 million at auction. That’s a new record for the most expensive baseball ever sold, and it was smashed by a wide margin.
Per Will Stern of Cllct Media, the previous record for the most expensive baseball sold was Mark McGwire’s 70th home run ball. The historic piece sold for $3.05 million in 1999, one year after he hit the milestone homer.
In the Sept. 19 game against Miami, Ohtani had six hits, three homers and 10 RBI in a 20-4 blowout win. The two-way superstar finished his milestone regular season with 54 homers, 130 RBI, 59 stolen bases, a .310 batting average and a 1.036 OPS.

Ohtani has the 2024 National League MVP award locked up, as Aaron Judge does in the American League. Game 1 of the star-studded 2024 World Series will take place in Los Angeles on Friday night.
Shohei Ohtani & Dodgers Aim For Dynasty Status
Despite consistent regular-season success, the Dodgers have a long history of underperforming in the postseason. They have won three NL pennants under manager Dave Roberts, but there’s just one World Series to show for it (2020).
Ohtani and the Dodgers are this-close to pushing the historic franchise closer to dynastic status. A World Series triumph over the Yankees would mark their second title in five seasons, meaning they would need just one more championship to finally become a 2020s dynasty.
