Shohei Ohtani is just different. Everything he does on a baseball diamond seems to invoke a sense of awe, even among those who have been around the game for decades.
And last night in Los Angeles, during a nationally televised Sunday Night Baseball game between the Angels and Astros, he was at it again.

Just look… or, rather, LISTED… to this foul ball off the bat of the current AL MVP front-runner.
The 116.4 mph ball speed is insane, but it pales in comparison to the noise generated by Ohtani’s insane bat-speed making contact with that 92 mph fastball.
While that one wasn’t able to stay inside the foul pole, Ohtani did make up for it with a 411-foot homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull his team within one. Unfortunately, that’s as close as they would get, losing a barnburner to their division rivals, 9-8.

Although his team may be slumping, Ohtani continues to do his thing. He’s now up to a league-leading 34 home runs on the season. And his 73 RBIs and .301 batting average rank third and 10th in the American League, respectively.
As the Angels continue to drift further and further out of a playoff spot, could we see Ohtani finally get dealt to a legitimate contender?
