On the one hand we have the New York Mets spending $765 million on Juan Soto. On the other hand, Scott Boras thinks that the MLB teams are not spending as much as they should have to. While it’s not easy to sit with either of the narrative, teams’ spending habit has changed for sure.
Recently, Boras has openly criticized teams for their reluctance to spend money in free agency despite experiencing significant revenue growth. At the introductory press conference for Corbin Burnes with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Boras pointed out a troubling trend. According to him, many teams are generating more revenue than ever but are investing far less in player contracts compared to a few years ago.
“You’re seeing so many teams that are actually not spending. They’re making more, but they’re not spending. They’re spending far less than they did two, three years ago. There’s a quadrant as many as 10 to 12 teams that are in that position,” Boras said as reported by USA Today.

His assumptions are not baseless. He has seen the league grow and develop to the modernized form that we see today.
“The graduation of being an owner has a different definition that it did 10, 15 years ago, ironically because of the appreciation of the franchise value,” the sports agent added.
However, Boras’ assertions are supported by statistics that reveal the disparity in player spending among teams this offseason. At one point, six teams had combined contract expenditures exceeding $100 million, while nine teams had spent less than $5 million on free agents throughout the winter.

Scott Boras Has His Say On Arizona Diamondbacks’ Corbin Burnes Deal
The Arizona Diamondbacks recently signed Corbin Burnes for a substantial six-year $210 million contract. Other than breaking the bank, this trade, in particular, got Scott Boras pointing out at the other teams.
According to Boras, other teams should stop making excuses for not pursuing marquee-free agents like Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso. Historically, the Diamondbacks have not been considered a large-market team. But their courageous will to heavily invest in Burnes has Scott acknowledge the small market’s financial resource availability.
“I don’t want to address preemptive questions about it. You’re going to have to ask Pete how he’s going to feel and what he’s going to do. He’s just in the marketplace listening right now. Teams are now getting a little more definition about their teams, so I think things will move,’’ Boras said earlier in the same interview.
Corbin Burnes' agent, Scott Boras, is also Zac Gallen's agent.

"When I called Zac to tell him I was joining Corbin, I probably have never have heard him more excited," Boras said.

Despite both Bregman and Alonso being highly sought-after players, their contracts remain elusive as we approach spring training. Alonso, for instance, has been open to negotiating with the New York Mets but has yet to finalize a deal, and it’s unclear if lengthy negotiations have damaged the relationship between the two sides.
