The wife of a senior New York Yankees executive was found dead at their New Jersey home this weekend.
The body of Rachel Minaya, the wife of former Mets GM and current Yankees exec Omar Minaya, was discovered at the residence on Saturday night.
Rachel was 55.
The New York Post is reporting that, according to someone briefed by the family, Omar was not home at the time of his wife’s death, while suicide has been ruled out.
Omar and Rachel have two adult sons, Justin and Teddy. Justin is currently on a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers and has been playing for their Summer League team this offseason.
A 2007 Sports Illustrated profile notes that Omar and Rachel met at a hair salon in Manhattan in 1989 and got engaged on a trip to Italy within a year.

New York Yankees Exec Omar Minaya Has Been Around
Omar joined the Yankees as a senior adviser to GM Brian Cashman at the beginning of 2023. He was the Mets’ GM from 2004-10 and was a special assistant to multiple GMs from 2017-20.
The 65-year-old was the GM of the Montreal Expos before they moved to Washington and switched to the Nationals. He was also a scout for the Texas Rangers and served as the vice president of baseball operations for the San Diego Padres from 2011-15.
He spent a year working as an amateur scouting consultant for the MLB before joining the Yankees.
His duties as the GM’s adviser in NY include visiting the team’s minor league affiliates and scouting internationally for Cashman.
TPS would like to extend condolences to the Minaya family during this troubling time.
