Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz is in the midst of a horrible situation, and it bringing the situation to public awareness.
Ortiz, a current member and analyst of MLB on Fox, revealed that a hacker is threatening to expose his personal life and bank accounts online. In a video on Instagram, Ortiz opened up bout the hacker trying to extort him.
Local law enforcement is working with the FBI, DEA, and the Dominican Republic’s intelligence agency to help Ortiz, who is reaching out to fans to talk about the horrific situation.
This isn’t the first criminal incident around Ortiz. Over the last few years, the former slugger was almost murdered by a gunman in his home country and spent several weeks in the hospital as a result. 10 men were convicted in 2022 as a result of the attack.
This is an unfortunate reminder that as a public figure, there will be people and threats that can potentially involve someone threatening them. Ortiz isn’t alone in dealing with stalkers and assailants, but as cyber crimes grow, more figures are likely to be affected.
