Six weeks into the MLB season, there have been some sleepers, surprises, and teams flaming hot. This is this week’s Power Rankings for the MLB.
Which MLB teams gained some momentum in week 6 of rankings?
30. Colorado Rockies (Last Week's Rank: 30)
The Colorado Rockies swept the Texas Rangers this week, but that still wasn’t enough for me to believe they weren’t the worst team in baseball. The Rangers’ pitching staff never adjusted to the altitude in Colorado, and it showed all weekend.
29. Chicago White Sox (Last Week's Rank: 28)
The Chicago White Sox were on a four-game winning streak before Sunday’s 7-0 loss to the Guardians. After the win streak, they moved from the worst record in the league to tied for the second-worst record.
28. Los Angeles Angels (Last Week's Rank: 27)
Without Mike Trout, the Los Angeles Angels are a shell of themselves. They strike out at a ridiculous rate. For example, they were struck out 12 times against Royals pitcher Seth Lugo this weekend.

27. Miami Marlins (Last Week's Rank: 29)
Miami is in a three-way race with the White Sox and the Rockies for the worst record in the league. They currently have the worst record for Miami, and they’ve lost their best player, Luis Arraez. They had two tough series against the Dodgers and Phillies, so they should pick up a few wins this week.
26. St. Louis Cardinals (Last Week's Rank: 24)
St. Louis snapped a seven-game losing streak on Sunday with a 4-3 win over Milwaukee. The Cardinals have the talent, but it’s not showing. Their team batting average, on-base percentage, runs, and slugging percentage are in the bottom three.
25. Houston Astros (Last Week's Rank: 26)
The Astros are another team with a ton of talent that is not showing up. For the Astros, the question is starting to become: is the talent too old?
24. Cincinnati Reds (Last Week's Rank: 21)
Since April 25th, the Cincinnati Reds have gone 3-12. They started the season 14-11, so they’ve shown us some really good baseball, but right now, it isn’t very good.
23. Pittsburgh Pirates (Last Week's Rank: 19)
While the Pirates didn’t have the best weekend, things might turn around sooner rather than later. On Saturday, they called up pitcher Paul Skeenes to give them two OROY pitching candidates, along with the performance of pitcher Jared Jones.
22. San Francisco Giants (Last Week's Rank: 25)
The Giants have had one of the toughest schedules in the MLB so far. This week, they caught a break facing the Reds and the Rockies and took advantage of it by winning both series.
21. Oakland Athletics (Last Week's Rank: 20)
The Oakland Athletics are starting to regress, as expected. They are playing with many young players who are finding their groove, so the ups and downs will be a consistent theme in their season.
20. Toronto Blue Jays (Last Week's Rank: 22)
Toronto has one problem, they aren’t scoring runs. Their pitching has struggled, but they are not scoring enough runs as well. They currently rank 28th in runs.
19. Arizona Diamondbacks (Last Week's Rank: 23)
Arizona seems to be improving as the season goes on. They started the season playing poorly and now have won five of their last seven games. Their MLB ranking is on the jump as well.
18. New York Mets (Last Week's Rank: 18)
The New York Mets need help finding consistency. One week they’re hot, then the next they’re cold. For this team to make the playoffs, they must find a way to beat the Braves and Phillies, or it will be a long year of inconsistency.
17. Tampa Bay Rays (Last Week's Rank: 17)
The Tampa Bay Rays are slowly turning their season around. They are 6-3 in their last nine games, but they’ve also shown us their weaknesses. The team just needed to find some life in their offense.
16. Detroit Tigers (Last Week's Rank: 14)
The Tigers had a rough week and have lost their last three series to the Astros, Guardians, and Yankees. The offense has been average, and the Tigers need to find their groove to help their offense get back to winning.
15. Washington Nationals (Last Week's Rank: 15)
The Washington Nationals are continuing to prove they can compete with anyone. The Nationals went 3-3 this week and are now one game under .500.
14. Boston Red Sox (Last Week's Rank: 10)
The Boston Red Sox had a tough week, losing a short series to the Braves and then picking up two wins over the Nationals. Their pitching staff continues to be one of the best in the league.
13. Texas Rangers (Last Week's Rank: 16)
I’ve struggled to figure out why the Rangers struggle. Their offense is currently third in runs and 5th in batting average, and their pitching staff is consistent. But they’ve been right around .500 all season long. We’re waiting for the Rangers to get hot or a big collapse.
12. Seattle Mariners (Last Week's Rank: 13)
Seattle and the New York Yankees have the same problem: They play as well as their best players do. For the Mariners, it’s only ever as good as Julio Rodriguez. They have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, but they need to find more offensive weapons to improve their MLB ranking.
11. Milwaukee Brewers (Last Week's Rank: 7)
The Milwaukee Brewers have shown us some good and some bad this season. Their offense is good, and their pitching, especially the bullpen, is bad.
10. Cleveland Guardians (Last Week's Rank: 6)
The Chicago White Sox almost swept the Guardians in a four-game series. I’m giving it a pass this week because beating division opponents is tough. But the Guardians are looking like frauds.
9. Kansas City Royals (Last Week's Rank: 12)
The Royals won their series over the Brewers this week, which pushed them closer to the lead in the AL Central. Salvador Perez is still leading the charge, and the rest of the team continues to support when needed.
8. Minnesota Twins (Last Week's Rank: 11)
Since the twins’ twelve-game win streak ended, they’ve gone 1-4. The whole league is wondering how good this team is because they struggle a lot against the top teams, but you can’t deny the talent of a team eight games over .500 just 40 games into the season.
7. San Diego Padres (Last Week's Rank: 16)
Padres fans should be smiling ear to ear after the Luis Arraez trade. He’s been everything the team needed and more already, hitting a walk-off, posting a four-hit performance, and helping them beat the Dodgers in a three-game series.
6. Chicago Cubs (Last Week's Rank: 8)
There are many teams with better records than the Chicago Cubs, but the Cubs have won some tough series early in the year, beating the Dodgers, Brewers, and Mariners. This team will have a chance to prove its strength and MLB rankings this week as it faces the Braves, Pirates, and Braves again.
5. New York Yankees (Last Week's Rank: 4)
The New York Yankees are really good, but Juan Soto’s play also seems to determine their energy and chase to win. They need another spark plug to push them over the edge.
4. Los Angeles Dodgers (Last Week's Rank: 3)
The Dodgers lost their series over the weekend to the Padres, but they were on a seven-game win streak coming into the series. This team has two potential MVPs and will be chasing the best record in the league all year.
3. Atlanta Braves (Last Week's Rank: 2)
Atlanta’s offense isn’t playing as well as it was early in the season, but the team is still winning games. In the last few weeks, the Braves have shown us why they are one of the best in the league: They can win however they need to when they need to.
2. Baltimore Orioles (Last Week's Rank: 1)
The Baltimore Orioles are 9-2 in their last 11 games. The team’s offense overpowers their opponents, and it’s now matched with a consistent pitching staff. You want to avoid playing Baltimore right now.
1. Philadelphia Phillies (Last Week's Rank: 5)
The Philadelphia Phillies have been on fire for weeks! They are currently 13-3 in their last sixteen games, and it doesn’t seem like they will stop anytime soon.
