Major League Baseball has started the 2024 season with a BANG! Only two weeks into the MLB season, it’s time to start the power rankings and break down who has played the best so far.
30. Chicago White Sox
Starting the season 2-13 is terrible, but scoring only two runs per game is worse. The Whitesox are dead last in runs and on-base percentage and have already had two four-game losing streaks. They might be the worst team in the league all season if they continue to play like this.
29. Miami Marlins
After Making the Playoffs last season, I don’t think anyone expected the Marlins to start the season 3-13. Their lineup hasn’t been productive early on, and they currently don’t have a single player batting over .300.
28. Colorado Rockies
The Colorado Rockies record is worse than their play; thus they are found here at the bottom part of the MLB rankings. On offense, they’re 11th in overall Batting Average, 14th in OBP, and 16th in Runs. But on the mound, they’re letting everyone score. They currently rank dead last in ERA and WHIP, and if that statistic holds, it won’t matter what the offense does.

27. San Francisco Giants
If not for the Padres, the Giants would only have two wins. They’ve played a demanding opening schedule, so the Giants should rebound nicely, but they must pick it up fast to compete in the NL West.
26. Seattle Mariners
Seattle started the season 3-2 and only picked up three wins over their next 11 games. Their pitching staff has been the best part of their team this season, as the offense has been nonexistent. However, Seattle needs their young star, Julio Rodriguez, to play better if the team wants to win.

25. Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals record could be better, but they’re playing much better than expected. Jessie Winker has been a great addition to their young roster, and CJ Abrams is starting to show why he was a top prospect. Washington fans shouldn’t be thinking playoffs, but the future’s looking brighter in DC.
24. Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins have played multiple top teams in the league to start the season. While it hasn’t been the best start, their production has been solid, and they have a few series with some bottom teams over the next few weeks. Win a few and they’d certainly go up in the MLB rankings.
23. Oakland Athletics
I don’t think anyone expected the Athletics to be two games below .500 at this point in the season. Oakland had a really bad start to the year, going 1-7, but they have totally switched things around since then, going 6-2. Things aren’t great in the Bay, but they’re better than expected.
22. New York Mets
The New York Mets struggled to get going early in the season, beginning the year 0-5. They’ve since gone 7-3 and have been a different team. The Mets lineup has been the most significant part of their recent success, with seven different hitters batting over .250.
21. Houston Astros
The Houston Astros are getting the benefit of the doubt starting the season 6-11. They’ve played the Yankees and Rangers twice and the red-hot Royals in their first five series. It hasn’t looked good in Houston early in the year, but the good times are coming.
20. Los Angeles Angels
Even after losing Shohei Ohtani, the Angels have looked like the same team as last season. When they fail, it’s by multiple runs. When they win, it’s by multiple runs. The Angels will likely get worse as the MLB season continues, but it hasn’t been bad so far in the current rankings.
19. St.Louis Cardinals
I don’t think anyone thought the Cardinals would be dead last in their division this early in the year. But the NL Central is playing great baseball early on. The Cardinals roster has a ton of experience and talent both in the field and on the mound, so they still have a great chance to end the season in first place in their division.
18. Boston Red Sox
Somehow, the Reds have had a five-game winning streak and a four-game losing streak just 16 games into their season. They sit at 9-7 and look much more competitive than last season.
17. Toronto Blue Jays
Sitting at .500 on the year, the Toronto Blue Jays have shown us the good and the bad. The good news is that Toronto’s new infielder, Justin Turner, has been on fire. The bad is that their pitching staff still needs to. They’ve already given up eight runs or more six times this season and will be the team’s Achilles heel if they continue the trend.
16. Detroit Tigers
The Tigers are certainly one of the biggest surprises in baseball so far. They have yet to have a tough schedule, and they probably won’t continue this success. But they’re currently on a five-game win streak, giving them a 9-6 record and a good spot in this week’s MLB rankings.
15. Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies have had an average start to their season but are currently struggling with consistency. They have won at most two in a row at any point, but they have yet to lose more than two in a row. The wins should add up soon for the Phillies.

14. San Diego Padres
There is a lot to be happy about in San Diego. While they have had a slow start to the season, they have seven hitters batting above .250 and three hitting over .300. They are also tied for first in the league in runs scored with 96; if that continues, their record will improve.
13. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks currently sit at .500 on the year and have found success in different ways early in the season. Sometimes, it’s their pitching, and sometimes, their offense just carries them to victories. Their offense is in the top ten in Runs, Batting Average, and OBP.
12. Texas Rangers
The Rangers probably haven’t started how they want to after winning a World Series last season, but their offense is still playing championship baseball. They currently rank in the top ten in all four major offensive statistics: runs, Batting Average, OBP, and Slugging percentage. With their aces Max Scherzer and Jacob Degrom likely to return sometime during the middle of the summer, there are some things to look forward to in Texas and their MLB rankings should improve in time.
11. Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa Bay was 3-4 to start the year; since then it’s been 9-7. The Rays’ positive is that they currently have three players hitting over .310. Over the last few games, their lineup has really been playing well. They might have found the nine they need for a good season early on.
10. Chicago Cubs
The Cubs’ success shouldn’t be surprising, as the organization has been building for years. They don’t have many statistics to jump at you, but they keep finding ways to win.
9. Cincinnati Reds
The Cincinnati Reds offense has been one of the best in the game early in the season. They’ve scored six or more runs eight times already this season and are shaping up to be one of the best this year.
8. Baltimore Orioles
Many expected the Orioles to be the best team in baseball this season. They could have been better early on, but they’re still really good. Their pitching staff is much-improved thanks to the addition of Corbin Burnes, and their offense is playing how they expect.
7. Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians are another surprise in the MLB rankings this season. They’ve done well starting the season 10-5 and now will have to maintain their success to win the NL Central. The Guardians should be good this season, but not for long.
6. Kansas City Royals
There is a lot to like about the Royals’ performance so far, beginning the season 10-6. They have put together a seven-game win streak already and have a potential MVP candidate brewing in Salvador Perez.
5. Pittsburgh Pirates
It’s early, but the Pirates are playing like a playoff team. They’ve put together a five and three-game winning streak already this year. The Pirates have also been very strong, statistically, being top ten in the four major stats on offense and defense.
4. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been up and down early in the season. Sometimes they look like the team we expect them to and other times they look sluggish. This is the best team in baseball. But they’ve got a lot of work to do before they get crowned #1 in the MLB rankings.
3. Atlanta Braves
The Braves will be the Braves. Nobody should be surprised by their hot start, especially with Marcelo Ozunza playing out of this world. It will be interesting to see if they keep the hot start going after the injury to Spencer Strider, but their offense will likely be the best in baseball this year as they’re top 3 in all four significant statistics.
2. Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers are on fire to start the year. Like the Braves, they’re in the top three in all four major statistics. They’ve also put together two four-game win streaks and won every series they’ve played so far.
1. New York Yankees
Juan Soto’s impact on the Yankees lineup has been immediately felt, helping them to a 12-4 start. So far, that’s been the big key to making the Yankees the best team in baseball, as his production has been needed for a long time in New York.
