Just a month into the MLB season, we’re starting to see teams separate themselves at the top, showing us how bad they are at the bottom.
Which MLB teams move up or down in week 4’s rankings?
30. Miami Marlins (Last Week’s Rank: 25)
Currently riding a six-game losing streak, the Miami Marlins have earned the last spot on this week’s power rankings. Getting swept by the Braves is one thing, but being down 3-0 to the Nationals in a four-game series where you led in every game is horrible.
29. Chicago White Sox (Last Week’s Rank: 30)
The Chicago White Sox moved up one spot in this week’s rankings. They swept the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game series, matching their win total for the season and giving them some momentum going forward.
28. Colorado Rockies (Last Week’s Rank: 28)
It’s no surprise that the Colorado Rockies gave up 41 runs in six games. If they continue to play like this, their pitching staff will keep them at the bottom of the league.

27. Los Angeles Angels (Last Week’s Rank: 23)
The Los Angeles Angels started the year at .500 through their first 12 games. Since then, they’ve gone 4-12. The Angels have come back down to earth.
26. Houston Astros (Last Week’s Rank: 26)
Against quality opponents, the Astros have looked bad this season. If you can only beat the bad MLB teams, you won’t score very high on the power rankings.
25. Arizona Diamondbacks (Last Week’s Rank: 21)
The Diamondbacks have only won one game in three of their last four series. This week, they also lost Merril Kelly for a month, so it will be tough for them going forward.
24. Oakland Athletics (Last Week’s Rank: 29)
The Oakland Athletics get a slight boost in the power rankings after winning their series over the Baltimore Orioles last week. This team has been shocking, to say the least, this season, playing better than many people expected.
23. St. Louis Cardinals (Last Week’s Rank: 24)
The St.Louis Cardinals are fighting to get back to .500 after a slow start to their season; they won their series over the Mets and Diamondbacks over the last week, pushing them up a spot in this week’s rankings.
22. San Francisco Giants (Last Week’s Rank: 22)
The San Francisco Giants are tough to judge early in the season, but they keep winning. They have just one game under .500, and they’ve gone 5-3 in the last eight games because their pitching staff has been lights out in recent weeks.
21. Tampa Bay Rays (Last Week’s Rank: 19)
The Tampa Bay Rays ranked 21 just two weeks after I had them at 11. Since then, they’ve gone 4-7 and lost every series. The Ray’s offense has struggled to hit the ball, leading to this MLB team’s struggles in the win column.
20. San Diego Padres (Last Week’s Rank: 17)
It was a tough week for the San Diego Padres. Their offense is one of the best in the league, but it’s hard to consistently win when your pitching staff gives up the same amount of runs.
19. Washington Nationals (Last Week’s Rank: 18)
The Washington Nationals might be young, but they play good baseball this season. Just one game under .500, they are getting a ton of production from Jesse Winker and CJ Abrams, and the future looks very bright.
18. Toronto Blue Jays (Last Week’s Rank: 12)
The Toronto Blue Jays had two rough series against the Royals and Dodgers in a row. They will bounce back, but only picking up one win in both series will hurt them for a while.
17. Pittsburgh Pirates (Last Week’s Rank: 16)
The Pirates started the season strong, but as of late, they are one of the worst teams in baseball. In the last 13 games, they’ve only won three. They might get it together, but it could also be the start of what’s to come.
16. Texas Rangers (Last Week’s Rank: 15)
The Rangers are starting to look like defending World Series Champions, winning six of their last eight games. They will get better as the season progresses.
15. New York Mets (Last Week’s Rank: 9)
One week, the Mets look like one of the best teams in MLB, then the next, they look weak. This week was weak for the Mets, but overall, the New York Lineup is finding its rhythm on offense.
14. Cincinnati Reds (Last Week’s Rank: 13)
When the Reds offense plays well, they win; when they aren’t, they lose. Yes, that’s a common sports opinion. But for Cincinnati, it’s been life this year. In 9 of their 15 wins, they’ve scored seven or more runs. In 10 of their 13 losses, they’ve scored three or fewer.
13. Minnesota Twins (Last Week’s Rank: 27)
The Twins are currently riding a seven-game win streak and have moved from the bottom of the rankings to almost cracking the top ten.
12. Seattle Mariners (Last Week’s Rank: 20)
A few weeks ago, I said the Mariners needed Julio Rodriguez to step up in order to win consistently. He’s done just that, and the Mariners are now at the top of the AL West.
11. Detroit Tigers (Last Week’s Rank: 8)
The Detroit Tigers are surprising this season, and the question will become: can they keep it going? Mark Canha has been a massive addition to the team, and they’ll need the rest of their lineup to step up to continue to win.
10. Boston Red Sox (Last Week’s Rank: 11)
The Boston Red Sox continue to be a streaky team, creating multiple win streaks this season. Their pitching staff is playing exceptionally, holding the MLB’s lowest ERA.
9. Kansas City Royals (Last Week’s Rank: 10)
I don’t know if anyone expected the Kansas City Royals to be 17-12 through the season’s first month. But it’s time to give them their respect. Salvador Perez and Bobby Whit Jr are playing like All-Stars, and the rest of the Royals are also doing their part.
8. Chicago Cubs (Last Week’s Rank: 7)
The Chicago Cubs are giving their city something to be proud of. They’re one of the best teams in the league at home, and they’re half a game back from leading the NL Central.
7. Milwaukee Brewers (Last Week’s Rank: 3)
The Milwaukee Brewers offense is on fire this season; the MLB team currently ranks 4th in Batting Average, OBP, and Slugging Percentage, and even with their pitching struggles, they hold one of the best records in the league.
6. Los Angeles Dodgers (Last Week’s Rank: 14)
The Los Angeles Dodgers turned things around this week, winning six of seven. They now hold a 3.5-game lead in their division, and their offense is playing exactly how we expected.
5. Philadelphia Phillies (Last Week’s Rank: 6)
The Phillies are not a team you want to play when they’re hot. They get production from their entire lineup and always seem on base. Even in a lineup with Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, and Kyle Scwarber, their best player has been Alec Bohm this season.
4. New York Yankees (Last Week’s Rank: 5)
The New York Yankees continue to win the series thanks to Juan Soto’s play. The new addition has really paid off a month into the season, and his impact has rubbed off on some other Yankees hitters as well.
3. Cleveland Guardians (Last Week’s Rank: 4)
The Clevland Guardians are playing outstanding. Josh Naylor, Jose Ramirez, and Steven Kwan are killing it at the plate, and their pitching staff is doing their part to support them, which is why they have one of the best records in baseball.
2. Baltimore Orioles (Last Week’s Rank: 2)
Although losing a series to the Athletics was surprising, the Orioles are still one of the best teams in Baseball. They will show it this week against the Yankees as well.
1. Atlanta Braves (Last Week’s Rank: 1)
The Atlanta Braves hold the best record in baseball for a second week in a row. They’re not just winning; even in their losses, they keep the game close, with five of their seven losses being by two runs or less. If the Braves keep games close, they will be at the top for a while.
