With 13 games remaining, the MLB postseason is heating up. Check out this week’s MLB Power Rankings and see which teams are in the best position to reach the playoffs.
Which MLB teams are vying for the top spot before the start of the postseason?
30. Chicago White Sox (Last Week's Rank: 30)
One thing all baseball fans can agree on is that the White Sox have cemented themselves as the worst MLB team in 2024.
29. Miami Marlins (Last Week's Rank: 28)
The Marlins went 1-6 last week, as you’d expect. This team was battling for weeks and has now hit the point where the MLB season’s end is all they’re looking forward to.
28. Los Angeles Angels (Last Week's Rank: 27)
Last week, Los Angeles went 1-6, was officially eliminated from the playoffs, and got one week closer to vacation.

27. Colorado Rockies (Last Week's Rank: 29)
The Rockies finished the week 3-3, losing a series to the Tigers and winning their series against the Cubs.
26. Pittsburgh Pirates (Last Week's Rank: 26)
Pittsburgh had a typical week last week, beating a bad team really badly by sweeping the Marlins. Then, losing a series to someone on their playing level, The Nationals.
25. Oakland Athletics (Last Week’s Rank 25)
The Athletics have struggled all season, which was expected. But considering the fact that they’ve been playing with mainly prospects all season, they’ve had a year better than most expected.

24. Texas Rangers (Last Week's Rank: 24)
While the Rangers aren’t the worst team in the MLB, they had the most disappointing season. Coming off of a World Series, they will likely finish in the bottom ten of the standings and didn’t spend much time above .500.
23. Washington Nationals (Last Week's Rank: 21)
Like Oakland, this season has been a year of rebuilding for Washington. The Nationals rebuild showed growth last week, going from 4 to 2.
22. Toronto Blue Jays (Last Week's Rank: 23)
The Blue Jays had a decent week, going 4-2. Unlike other MLB teams, they didn’t sell at the trade deadline and chose to keep their pieces. But they will likely not be playing in the postseason.
21. San Francisco Giants (Last Week's Rank: 18)
One week, the Giants are swimming, and the next, they’re sinking. Last week, they stunk and sank, going 1-5 in six games.
20. Cincinnati Reds (Last Week's Rank: 22)
Cincinnati is 9-5 in their last 14 games. Still, five games below .500 and nine games back from a wild card spot signifies their season is almost over, though.
19. Tampa Bay Rays (Last Week's Rank: 24)
Tampa Bay had a tough week playing the Guardians and Phillies in back-to-back series. They lost both, but their season was likely over even if they won.
18. St.Louis Cardinals (Last Week's Rank: 19)
The Cardinals are seven games back in the NL wild-card race, and their season seems all but over. Their final four series are all winnable, but they also will need other teams to stumble to reach their postseason goal.
17. Boston Red Sox (Last Week's Rank: 14)
Boston is in a three-team race for the final AL Wild Card spot, but they also have the toughest path. Sitting at .500 and 4.5 games back in the race.
16. Chicago Cubs (Last Week's Rank: 15)
The Cubs offense has lit up over the last month of the season, but they also might have done it too late. Chicago is five games back in the NL Wild Card race and needs some wins and some help to get into the final spot.
15. Seattle Mariners (Last Week's Rank: 17)
The Mariners are finally hitting the baseball, but it just might be too late. Last week, they went 4-2, but still sit 2.5 games back in the wild card race and 4.5 games back in their division.
14. Detroit Tigers (Last Week's Rank: 16)
Don’t count the Tigers out just yet! Detroit has gone 9-5 in their last 14 games and just beat the Orioles in a series. This MLB team is dangerous.
13. Atlanta Braves (Last Week's Rank: 12)
The Braves season has been disappointing, a team that looked like they couldn’t miss the playoffs at the All-Star break now seems as if it will be a fight to the finish with the Mets, who they are tied with for the last wild card spot in the NL.
12. Minnesota Twins (Last Week's Rank: 10)
Like the Mets, the Twins are clinging to the last wild card spot in their division, the AL. Minnesota is excited, though, to have back their best player in Byron Buxton, right when they need him.
11. New York Mets (Last Week's Rank: 13)
The New York Mets were 3-3 last week but did have a tough series versus Philadelphia. The Mets are another team that controls their own destiny with a few weeks left in the season and a series matchup against the Braves.
10. Houston Astros (Last Week's Rank: 8)
The Astros have fought their way into the #1 seed in the AL West, but their road to the finish line will not be easy. They have four series left, and three are against playoff contenders who need to win.
9. Kansas City Royals (Last Week's Rank: 11)
The Royals are 7-3 in their last ten games and have now snuck into the second AL Wild Card spot and past Minnesota in the AL Central race. Their last four series are against Detroit, San Francisco, Washington, and Detroit, so the playoffs are in their control.
8. Baltimore Orioles (Last Week's Rank: 5)
Baltimore was projected to be the best team in baseball this MLB season, but the year hasn’t exactly played out that way. They started on top and have been cold since the All-Star break. They are still good, but you have to wonder which team will show up in the Playoffs.
7. Arizona Diamondbacks (Last Week's Rank: 8)
Arizona has been a problem for the rest of the league for weeks. This team has shown the experience they gained from last season’s World Series run, and right now, it’s showing as well. In the last two weeks, Arizona has struggled, but they win when they need to hold on to the second NL Wild Card spot.
6. Cleveland Guardians (Last Week's Rank: 7)
The Guardians are 5-2 in their last seven games and continue to hold on to the lead in the AL Central by four games. During the seven-game span, they allowed only 16 runs while scoring 26.
5. San Diego Padres (Last Week's Rank: 6)
The Padres have had a rollercoaster of a season. It’s been filled with injuries, exciting rookies, really low lows, and they’ve spent the second half of the season on a high. San Diego is the team everyone wants to avoid in the MLB playoffs.
4. Milwaukee Brewers (Last Week's Rank: 4)
I’ve been high on the Brewers all season. Mainly because of their offense, but in recent weeks, their pitching has been dominant as well.
3. New York Yankees (Last Week's Rank: 3)
The Yankees have been the best team in the AL all season. They survived the worst stretch of any team in the top ten and, outside of that, have been hard to beat.
2. Los Angeles Dodgers (Last Week's Rank: 1)
The Los Angeles Dodgers had a rough week. They lost both their series to the Braves and the Cubs and dropped to two games behind the Dodgers for best record in the MLB.
1. Philadelphia Phillies (Last Week's Rank: 2)
When the Phillies are hot, they’re tough to beat right now. They’re scorching. The Phillies have gone 16-5 in their last 21 games.
