Just a week away from the MLB Trade Deadline, some teams are looking to add new pieces and others are looking to sell. Here are this week’s MLB Power Rankings which could switch up next week.
Which MLB teams surged in this week’s power rankings?
30. Chicago White Sox (Last Week's Rank: 30)
A remake of the Bad News Bears could easily be titled the 2024 Chicago White Sox. This team is pathetic. They are now nine games behind any other team in the MLB, and it will get worse.
29. Miami Marlins (Last Week's Rank: 28)
The one thing the Marlins have going for them is that they aren’t as bad as the White Sox. Other than that, at least they have players with trade value.
28. Colorado Rockies (Last Week's Rank: 29)
For the first time in a long time, the Rockies won consecutively on their home field. Winning three of four at home.

27. Oakland Athletics (Last Week's Rank: 27)
As bad as Oakland is, they had another winning week. This team is a mix of prospects and players with no place else to call home. So things aren’t as bad as they seem in the Bay.
26. Los Angeles Angels (Last Week's Rank: 26)
I give the Angels a pass on their struggles because they’ve been without Mike Trout for months. But unfortunately, I think it’s time for them to face the elephant in the room and trade him despite his wishes to stay with the team. Trout currently has a no-trade clause in his contract, so a trade is unlikely unless he changes his mind and picks his next destination.

25. Toronto Blue Jays (Last Week's Rank: 25)
Unlike the MLB teams below them on this list, the Blue Jays have a lot of pieces to trade. The bigger question is whether they will do it. Right now, their division is too competitive to make a push at the playoffs. Next week, they might be an entirely new team.
24. Cincinnati Reds (Last Week's Rank: 21)
Last week was tough for Cincinnati. They lost another series to the Nationals, and they continue to lose when they need to win the most. This is a young team that can still make the playoffs, but they need to find their clutch gene fast.
23. Texas Rangers (Last Week's Rank: 18)
The Rangers can’t win a series against a good team, which is why they’re seven games back in the AL Wild Card race. But luckily, they’re only four games back in the AL West. They have a long way to climb to get back in the race for their division and for the wild card.
22. San Francisco Giants (Last Week's Rank: 23)
The San Francisco Giants had another down week, which is becoming the norm. They’ve lost eight of their last 12 games and continue to struggle at the plate.
21. Chicago Cubs (Last Week's Rank: 22)
Could I see the Cubs making the playoffs? Yes. Could I also see the Cubs losing a majority of their final 60 games? Also, yes. They are a solid team who can’t find consistency.
20. Washington Nationals (Last Week's Rank: 24)
Because of the battle in the NL Wild Card race, the Nationals are still in the playoff race. They’re 4.5 games back but sit behind eight other MLB teams who will be battling for the last spot. The Nats went 5-1 in their last six games and will need much more success to get into third place.
19. Tampa Bay Rays (Last Week's Rank: 19)
Like the Blue Jays, the Rays are struggling to compete in the competitive AL East, although they can compete for a wild card. Sitting at .500 on the season, the Rays need to make a few trades, and they could find themselves on the edge of the third wild card spot.
18. Detroit Tigers (Last Week's Rank: 20)
The Tigers season is hanging in the balance, and their trade decisions in the next week will tell you which direction they’re going in.
17. Arizona Diamondbacks (Last Week's Rank: 15)
Arizona has been fighting its way up the NL standings week by week since early June. Sitting just one game back in the wild-card standings, they are in a great position to control their destiny.
16. Pittsburgh Pirates (Last Week's Rank: 20)
Pittsburgh has a real chance to make the playoffs since they called up rookie Paul Skenes. Sitting half a game back in the wild-card race, they will need to make pivotal roster moves this week to give themselves the best chance going forward.
15. New York Mets (Last Week's Rank: 14)
The Mets have certainly been streaky over the last few months, and depending on if they go hot or cold in August will determine their playoff future.
14. San Diego Padres (Last Week's Rank: 13)
San Diego currently sits half a game back from third in the wild-card race. One win streak could put them in first, but they have yet to find their spark this season amongst MLB teams.
13. Seattle Mariners (Last Week's Rank: 13)
The Seattle Mariners have not looked good in recent weeks, and it could easily come back to haunt them. They’ve lost six of their seven games and the AL West lead, they need to make multiple trades for multiple hitters, fast.
12. Atlanta Braves (Last Week's Rank: 6)
The injury bug has struck the Atlanta Braves hard this season, but they continue to fight. Atlanta is without Ozzie Albies after losing Ronald Acuna for the season.
11. St. Louis Cardinals (Last Week's Rank: 16)
The St. Louis Cardinals are fighting hard in the NL Central race, but it’s unlikely they will catch the Milwaukee Brewers. But they’ve fought their way back into playoff contention and now are going to be playing for a wild card spot next month.
10. Houston Astros (Last Week's Rank: 11)
The Astros are one of the veteran MLB teams with a ton of playoff experience; the challenge will be how they get in. They currently hold the lead in the AL West, but both the Rangers and Mariners are not far behind.
9. Boston Red Sox (Last Week's Rank: 9)
The Boston Red Sox are currently on a four-game losing streak and are looking to make a turnaround rapidly. Their biggest problem right now is finding production at the bottom of their lineup.
8. New York Yankees (Last Week's Rank: 7)
This Yankees team has a lot of weaknesses. Thanks to their tremendous start to the season, they have a top record. But over the last twenty games against other MLB teams, they’ve won just eight.
7. Kansas City Royals (Last Week's Rank: 10)
Count on Kansas City to make some noise in the playoffs. The young roster is playing great baseball at the right times. Their name has also been floating around in the Tarik Skubal trade rumors, which will increase their chances of winning in the postseason.
6. Milwaukee Brewers (Last Week's Rank: 8)
Like the Twins, the Brewers are quietly having a fantastic season offensively. The problem is their starting pitching rotation, which is 27th in quality starts.
5. Los Angeles Dodgers (Last Week's Rank: 3)
The Los Angeles Dodgers have picked up five wins in their last seven games. They aren’t winning in impressive fashion at all, but wins are wins.
4. Minnesota Twins (Last Week's Rank: 5)
The Minnesota Twins have one of the best offenses in baseball. Unfortunately, they sit in second place in their division because of the Cleveland Guardians and could miss it if they don’t win the division.
3. Cleveland Guardians (Last Week's Rank: 2)
The Cleveland Guardians aren’t shocking anyone anymore, and the trade deadline will be their friend. They will likely trade for a pitcher to help out their bullpen for the playoffs.
2. Baltimore Orioles (Last Week's Rank: 4)
Nobody needed the All-Star break more than the Baltimore Orioles, but maybe they needed more after they finished last week 2-4. Baltimore still holds the second-best record in the league.
1. Philadelphia Phillies (Last Week's Rank: 1)
Every team in the MLB has their problems, and then there’s the Phillies. Not only is this team the best in baseball, but they might be the best both offensively and defensively as well. Sitting two games above everyone else in the standings is a great feeling.
