Heckling Philadelphia Phillies provoked Atlanta Braves’ star Orlando Arcia in the dugout enough to the point where he finally snapped.
The Phillies hosted the Braves in Game 4 of the NLDS, looking to punch their second straight ticket to the NLCS. Philadelphia upset the top team in baseball 3-1, knocking their longtime division rivals out of the Division Series for the second straight year.
It was an awfully frustrating series for an Atlanta club that won 104 games, their most in a single season since 1998 (that team won 106 games). So it’s no wonder that it took just a bit of heckling for Arcia to finally lose it on fans who heckled him from behind the dugout.
Arcia briefly engaged with Phillies fans until teammate Ronald Acuña Jr. got him to stop.
Atlanta’s potent lineup was completely quiet in the series. Arcia, who was named to his first All-Star team this year, had just two hits in 13 at-bats (a .143 batting average) and struck out four times.
Acuña Jr. was hardly any better, batting .143 with two hits in 14 at-bats. As a team, the Braves hit .186 times and posted an OPS of .519. Without a doubt, this marks one of the most disappointing postseason exits in Braves history.
