Orioles relief pitcher Miguel Castro Jr. is very grateful this morning that he still has his life after he got held up at gunpoint while in the midst of training at a stadium in his hometown of La Romana.
Castro stated he robbed, but the people likely tried to kill him, but the gun jammed.
“They took my chains from me in the middle of the play, they almost gave me a shot by the grace of God the pistol was encasquilló (jammed). The bullet bounced. I am alive by the mercy of God,” Castro said.
Orioles general manager Mike Elias said in a statement Tuesday, “We are in contact with Miguel Castro regarding today’s incident in La Romana, DR and we are very thankful that he is safe.”
The 25-year-old had a 1-3 record with a 4.66 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 65 appearances with the Orioles last season.
