Pete Alonso and Alex Bregman’s free agency saga is almost entering spring training. Rumors have been swirling around these top sluggers since they hit the free-agent market. Despite multiple teams showing interest, both stars are yet to find a home.
Alonso’s reunion with the New York Mets has drastically dropped. The same goes for Bregman and the Astros. Alonso and Bregman were predicted to return to their former teams. However, both sluggers are seeking a long-term contract. The Mets were not ready to match Alonso’s demands since they already got Juan Soto.
The Astros came pretty close to signing Bregman, and they still have an offer left open. The Toronto Blue Jays were one of many teams interested in Pete Alonso and Bregman. Yet, they have moved ahead to pursue Anthony Santander.
MLB insider Hector Gomez claims a recent report shows that the AL East contender could seal the deal for either of the players.
“SOURCE: The BlueJays have offers out to both Pete Alonso (3 years) and Alex Bregman (6 years). The Jays are in play to land either of them,” Gomez wrote on X.

Pete Alonso And Alex Bregman Could Sign Before Spring Training
Alonso and Bregman’s signing has taken longer than expected. Alonso’s strong 2024 season with the Mets will give him a huge advantage when signing with a team. Bregman has an outstanding postseason performance, and teams will not hesitate to pursue the All-Star.

The biggest issue is that both players must compromise on either the number of years or the overall pay. Alonso is ready to consider a short-term deal with the Mets, but his price tag seems to be too high. Additionally, the Mets already have one of the best sluggers who could easily replace Pete Alonso.
The Blue Jays make sense for “Polar Bear” rather than Alex Bregman. The former Astros star is in huge demand as a third baseman, but the Jays will probably pivot to Alonso. Bregman could be a costlier affair, plus the Blue Jays need a first baseman as a backup in case Vladimir Guerrero Jr. departs. Rumors are also swirling around Jack Flaherty joining an AL West team.
