As the MLB offseason picks pace, the buzz surrounding Pete Alonso’s future is ramping up, with several teams in the mix. While the New York Mets are still seen as strong contenders to keep the All-Star slugger, two other teams are currently leading the race to sign him.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the San Francisco Giants might see Alonso as a fallback option after missing out on their top target, Corbin Burnes. Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays could be eyeing Alonso as a potential first baseman.
“Alonzo, as I reported a couple days ago, and of course things can change in a hurry. He and the Mets were in a bit of a gap at this point in terms of the negotiations, so no guarantee he’s going back to the Mets. That certainly is an option at this point, a possibility. But look, the Giants and the Jays have been very active in this market,” Heyman said during his recent conversation with MLB Network on YouTube.
Despite the swirling rumors, coming back to the Mets still seems like the best move for Alonso. The team isn’t likely to shake things up too much and is considering options like Alex Bregman while keeping an eye on their overall strategy. Plus, Citi Field has been a place where Alonso has thrived. Especially with heavy hitters like Juan Soto in the lineup to help take some pressure off him.
Los Angeles Angles Could Shock Everyone With Pete Alonso’s Decision
While most of the analysts would still favor that the Mets would do anything in their capability to keep the slugger, things might shock everyone. The Los Angeles Angels are heading to a pivotal offseason. And the possibility of snagging Pete Alonso could be at the top of their New Year resolution.
After a frustrating 63-99 finish in 2024, the Angels have been busy making trades and signings. Unfortunately, they’ve yet to make the big splash that fans have been eagerly anticipating. MLB insider Jon Heyman has teased that Alonso might just be on their radar. While the New York Mets seem to have the inside track on re-signing him, the Angels are lurking as a potential contender for his services.

“The Mets still make the most sense even though a gap exists now. After a 48-hour frenzy of 1B signings/trades (Paul Goldschmidt, Carlos Santana, Josh Naylor, Nathaniel Lowe), potential options include the Giants, Mariners, Rangers and Angels, and possibly the Cubs or Red Sox if they open up 1B via trade. But then, shouldn’t the Mets bring back the NL’s home run leader since 2019 to support their prized $765M pickup, Juan Soto?” Heyman wrote.

Bringing Alonso on board would not just add another big bat to the lineup. It would also give power hitters like Jorge Soler some much-needed support. The Angels are looking to strengthen their lineup and boost their offensive capabilities, and Alonso fits that bill perfectly.
