A massive trade proposal has the New York Yankees making a blockbuster deal for an All-Star pitcher that would make them the World Series favorites.
Despite their struggles over the past month, the New York Yankees (62-56), have the fifth-best record in baseball. They’re third in the American League and just one game behind the Baltimore Orioles for first in the AL East.
The Pinstripes have one of baseball’s best lineups led by MVP candidates Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. But the rotation has been a cause for concern, with Carlos Rodón and Nestor Cortés each sporting ERAs north of 4.0. And since returning from injury, perennial Cy Young candidate Gerrit Cole has a woeful 5.40 ERA in seven games.
So it’s obvious what GM Brian Cashman has to address ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline. And one fascinating trade proposal has the New York Yankees filling that void by landing one of the game’s top young pitchers.
Jim Bowden of The Athletic proposed a blockbuster trade idea in which the Yankees would acquire Chicago White Sox All-Star pitcher Garrett Crochet in exchange for pitcher Luis Gil, outfield prospect Spencer Jones and pitching prospect Will Warren:
“Gil would go right into the White Sox’s rotation. Jones, 23, could be a centerpiece in Chicago’s lineup for years to come. He has 30-homer, 30-steal potential in the future, but his hit tool needs work as he strikes out too much and has holes at the plate. This is the type of deal Cashman never makes because he doesn’t like to trade his best prospects, but he’s not getting Crochet without doing so in this case.”

The 25-year-old Crochet has been one of the few positives on a historically awful White Sox team (27-81) this season, with a 6-8 record and a 3.23 ERA with 160 strikeouts in 114.1 innings pitched.
Garrett Crochet Would Make New York Yankees The World Series Favorites
One can only assume that positive aggression awaits Gerrit Cole and his fellow starting pitchers. But Cashman can’t simply “hope” on positive regression from his rotation. He needs to act ahead of the trade deadline.
By acquiring Crochet, the New York Yankees would have a top-tier 1-2 punch with him and Gerrit Cole, and a rotation as deep as any other in the American League. It’s players like Crochet who usually make the difference in a playoff series, so Cashman should go all-in on trying to acquire the young All-Star who could be a vital piece of their long-term future.
