The New York Yankees have acquired the cousin of Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Kirk Cousins in a trade with another American League club.
The Yankees announced on X/Twitter that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Jake Cousins from the Chicago White Sox, with cash considerations going the other way. Jake is, in fact, the cousin of Kirk Cousins.
Back in June 2017, Kirk Cousins congratulated Jake on social media for being drafted by the Washington Nationals.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Jake Cousins was a 20th-round pick of the Nationals back in 2017. He never wound up playing for the organization, however, and finally turned pro as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021.
In 51 career game appearances, Cousins has notched 52.2 innings pitched and 72 strikeouts against 37 walks with a career ERA of 3.08. He now joins a Yankees team that has jumped out to its first 5-0 start since 1992.

Jake’s trade to New York comes three weeks after Cousins left the Minnesota Vikings to sign with the Falcons. The six-time Pro Bowler landed a lucrative four-year deal worth $180 million, with $100 million of it coming in guaranteed money.
Kirk Cousins May Be The Final Piece The Falcons Needed
The Falcons finished 7-10 in 2022 and 2023, narrowly missing out on the wide-open NFC South division crown in both seasons. They were largely held back by lackluster quarterback play, but the arrival of Kirk Cousins should change all of that.
Cousins joins a Falcons team led by a plethora of offensive playmakers. The group is headlined by running back Bijan Robinson, wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts, with RB Tyler Allgeier and WR Darnell Mooney also serving as secondary pieces.
The Falcons haven’t made the postseason since 2017, but with Cousins joining an ultra-talented roster, the pieces are finally there for the NFC South club to return there.
