Frustration finally boiled over for New York Yankees fans during Wednesday’s ugly home loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
The slumping New York Yankees had a golden opportunity to get back on track with their three-game set against the visiting Reds at Yankee Stadium. Cincinnati entered the week with a 39-45 record.
But the Reds completed the three-game sweep of the Pinstripes on Wednesday, cruising to an 8-4 victory that dropped New York to 54-35 on the year. The Yankees have now lost 11 of their last 14 games.
Perhaps the Yankees’ low point of the series came in the top half of the ninth inning in Wednesday’s series finale. Jeimer Candelario hit a line drive into centerfield for a base hit, but he managed to get to second because of this pathetic effort from Trent Grisham.
And Grisham’s careless play brought out the boo birds in front of an otherwise mostly quiet Yankee Stadium today:

The New York Yankees looked like the team to beat in the American League less less than a month ago, standing at 49-21 on June 12 following a convincing 11-5 road win over the Kansas City Royals.
That said, it may be a little too early for Yankees fans to really panic. They’re still only two games behind the Baltimore Orioles for tops in the AL East and still four games up on the Minnesota Twins for the top wild card spot.
New York Yankees Begin Pivotal Series vs. Boston Red Sox
The New York Yankees will try to get back on track when they begin a three-game home series against the archrival Boston Red Sox on Friday.
Boston is surging with victories in four straight, having completed a sweep of the struggling Miami Marlins. If Boston were to sweep New York, they would only be 4.5 out in the standings.
So yes, this is a pivotal series for the Pinstripes with a lot on the line.
