Unless things turn around quickly in “The 6ix”, Toronto Blue Jays superstar shortstop Bo Bichette could be one of the top names available ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline.
The Blue Jays have been one of baseball’s biggest disappointments through two months, entering the weekend with a 26-29 record. The contracts of Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. expire after the 2025 season, so the July 30 trade deadline might be Toronto’s best opportunity to maximize their return on both players.
Bichette isn’t playing up to his usual standards, boasting a mere .251 batting average, .633 OPS and a wins-above-replacement of 0.2. These numbers are well off his career BA (.295) and OPS (.813), so a fresh start may be necessary for the 26-year-old.
Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer proposed 10 blockbuster trade ideas for Toronto’s All-Star shortstop. One of his proposals has Bo Bichette and standout reliever Yimi García going to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for outfielder prospect Josue De Paula:
The Dodgers nonetheless need to think about adding depth to their lineup, which gets very thin, very fast after their excellent front five. And with just a .611 OPS attached to it, second base is primed for something better.
L.A. would be staying within its playbook if it traded for Bichette and moved him to second base. But since Betts showed last year that he’s just as capable at second as he is at short, the Dodgers could just as easily move him to the keystone.”

The Dodgers are loaded at the top of the lineup with three MVP winners in $700 million man Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. But as Rymer noted, the bottom half of the lineup leaves much to be desired.
So Bo Bichette is a logical trade candidate for the Dodgers if the Blue Jays end up shopping him. That said, a rebuilding Toronto team would likely command more than one promising prospect in exchange for Bichette.
With a loaded farm system, the Dodgers could very well pull such a move off.
There’s Still Time For Bo Bichette & Jays To Turn It Around
Toronto is 4.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the final wild card spot in the American League, but it’s far too early to waive the white flag and call off the playoff push.
The Jays swept the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday to get to 26-29. If they can go on a bit of a run, Bichette and company can quickly gain ground on Minnesota. And if that happens, all Bichette trade rumors will be put to rest for the year.
