The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed a number of top players this offseason. They brought in several free agents, signed an international pitcher, and re-signed players from last season. With a top offensive unit and a dominant pitching squad, they are ready to make another World Series run.
Yet, it’s hard to see the Boys in Blue without veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw. The team seems incomplete, as Kershaw remains a free agent. On the other hand, they have not made any progress with utility player Kike Hernandez.
Throughout his career, Kershaw has been a strong force for the team, while Hernandez has been a great asset in the playoffs. The Dodgers have already signed enough players, many of whom have deferred payments. The team has played it low with Kershaw despite rumors of their interest. Likewise, they are considering bringing back Hernandez.
However, bringing back both might be a tough choice. The franchise has already filled its team with enough starting pitchers, and Kershaw will be an extra addition. The Dodgers will try to bring back Kershaw after his strong connection and dedication to the team.
Ryan Brasier’s Trade Could Open Doors For Kershaw
After trading Ryan Brasier to the Chicago Cubs, they could open the doors for Kershaw. It’s clear that Kershaw wants a reunion with the team. The veteran stated that he would consider retiring if he didn’t get to pitch for the team.

Kershaw has played his entire career in Los Angeles. It’s hard for him to sign with another team at the tail end of his career. Kershaw future looks promising, especially since Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer signed a deal in their 40s.
The 36-year-old has a strong chance to continue pitching for another year or two. With that in mind, the Dodgers can easily offer Kershaw a short-term deal. Injuries have made his 2024 season a rough ride. However, his pitching prowess is undoubtedly impressive.
As far as Hernandez goes, the Dodgers can do without the utility player. Yet, they seem to want it all. Singing Kershaw and Hernandez will be the ultimate offseason for the team. Yet, it seems out of reach to bring back both players. Meanwhile, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred received backlash on social media for supporting the team.
