Pete Alonso and Alex Bregman’s free agent news is all over the place. With spring training nearing, top top sluggers are still waiting to find a home. Alonso has a bunch of teams pursuing him, and there are a few offers on the table.
The first baseman has Scott Boras negotiating on his behalf, but none of those offers seem to please the “Polar Bear.” Surprisingly, Alonso was ready to cut his deal short with the Mets. Yet, Steven Cohen and his team seem to have fallen out of the race.
Alonso is looking for a long-term deal with money that not many teams are ready to offer. Despite carrying the Mets forward in their crucial situations, they are not prepared to give him what he wants. As MLB reporter Hannah Keyser says, Alonso’s free agency has become awkward.
“I certainly think the way this has gone is awkward. It’s sort of awkward for Pete, regardless, at this point. We already know that Pete Alonso is not getting the money he wants or the years he wants out of his free agency. He’s having a disappointing free agency and that’s going to be true regardless of where he goes. I don’t think it’s necessarily awkward for the Mets. Pete’s not getting what he wants. Wherever he goes, everyone’s going to get to know he didn’t get what he wants,” Keyser said.

Pete Alonso And The Mets Could End Up In A Rough Relationship
Alonso’s free agency has gone haywire with the Mets. Cohen said he was unhappy with the way things were progressing between the two. Many think that the Mets and Alonso could part ways, and their relationship would not end on a good note.
Alonso’s relationship with the Mets has already taken a step back. After all the drama, it’s hard for the franchise to go all out and give him an offer. Moreover, the Mets are content with what they have. After singing Juan Soto, they have already bolstered their offense.
