On the sixth day of former Angels employee Eric Kay’s trial in connection to the death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs, prosecuting attorney Lindsey Beran revealed that former All-Star pitcher Matt Harvey will testify Tuesday morning.
What he revealed truly shocked a lot of people.
On the stand today, Harvey discussed his own usage of oxycodone and admitted to providing Skaggs with Percocet when they were teammates. He also shared that he used cocaine earlier in his career while with the New York Mets and was still using when he played in Los Angeles.
Defense attorneys have identified Harvey as the supplier of Percocet pills that were in Skaggs’ possession when he was found dead in 2019 in a Southlake, Texas, hotel room from what medical examiners deemed “alcohol, fentanyl and oxycodone intoxication with a terminal aspiration of gastric contents.”
ESPN reports that on Monday, defense attorney Michael Molfetta asked a former DEA agent about Skaggs sending Harvey “a text asking him to put drugs in his locker because he wanted to pitch ‘loosey goosey.’”

Kay faces felony counts of distributing a controlled substance that led to Skaggs’ death. Kay also is charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute an opioid. According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, Skaggs died by choking on his own vomit.
Harvey started the 2019 season with the Angels, but was released in July after going 3-5 in 12 starts.
If he is convicted, the former Angels employee would face a minimum of 20 years in prison.
