San Diego Padres center fielder Trent Grisham is getting rinsed on social media for his epic fail against the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend.
It seemed like everything was aligned for the 26-year-old to etch himself a historic moment at the end of Sunday’s game, with the Padres down one and the bases loaded on a two-out, full-count situation.
Of course, while such circumstances can bring about the best in players, they also come with lots of pressure. Still, one would expect Grisham to take a swing with a chance to win or at least tie the game.
Standing at the plate against the Brewers’ Devin Williams, Grisham should have been well aware of the fact that there was no other choice but to swing. However, he simply watched on as a 94mph fastball zinged past him for a strikeout that ended the contest.
The pitch and location were very similar to what led to the center fielder fouling off but, he somehow opted against swinging when it was what he needed to do.
Fans were not at all happy with the strange decision.

Per the tweets above, Codify notes that this was the first time a batter struck out in such a situation since 2006.
An incredibly ridiculous choice by Grisham there.
