The Houston Astros and Alex Bregman have yet to agree on a contract. The Astros were keen on signing Bregman, but the third baseman was unhappy with their $156 million contract. Bregman is keen on remaining in Houston but declined their qualifying offer.
The All-Star is open to exploring other options, and more than five teams have expressed interest in his free agency. The Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, and a few more teams are still looking forward to sealing a deal with Bregman.
Astros fans were happy about the possibility of a reunion with Alex Bregman. However, MLB insider Will Kunkel says the chances of a reunion are ‘very low.’ Kunkel thinks it can happen but likely will not.
“I am told the odds of the Astros signing Alex Bregman are “very low!” per source. Of course, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen but it likely will not,” Kunkel wrote on X.

It’s going to be bad news for Astros fans when Bregman signs with another team. The Red Sox are still in the race, and the Toronto Blue Jays are also predicted to go all in for the slugger.

“Astros are trying to bring back Alex Bregman. They’re still willing to do (at least) $156M, 6 yrs, but one reason he declined that earlier is it’s a cut from $28.5M salary. There’s said another team offering 6 w/1st year optout ($ unknown). Among others in: Cubs, Bosox, Tigers,” Heyman wrote on X.

Heyman says another team, including the Chicago Cubs, is in the mix for Bregman. It’s pretty hard to determine at this moment, but the Astros and Red Sox are still the front runners. With spring training nearing, Bregman and a few other free agents are still left in the lurch. On the other hand, Steve Cohen broke his silence on Pete Alonso’s negotiation.
